Apple confirms pulling “Hottest Girls” app with topless women

Apple on Friday confirmed it has removed Hottest Girls from the App Store due to images of topless women. Developer Allen Leung initially claimed to have ’sold out’ of the app and removed the title on his own will due to server usage, but the inaccurate explanation was later removed from the site.

“Apple will not distribute applications that contain inappropriate content, such as pornography,” a company representative told CNN.

Despite early reports that the app was reviewed and approved with the adult content, Apple has accused the developer of sneaking the

content onto the app after an acceptable version was approved. Leung allegedly ignored further requests that the questionable images be removed. “This was a direct violation of the terms of the iPhone Developer Program,” the statement reads.

Although the new iPhone 3.0 firmware contains parental controls that may lead to additional flexibility, Apple has reiterated its stance on nude/porn content. Critics of the company’s review policy are quick to point out the availability of iPhone-optimized content on pages accessible via Safari, with many of the pictures and videos arguably more offensive than topless models.
