AutoDesk Releases Painting And Drawing App SketchBook Mobile For iPhone

The world of graphical designers have always sworn by the supremacy of the Mac over the Personal computer in producing the best designs. Now looks like the iPhone is soon turning out to become the mobile phone illustration platform.

After Layers and Brushes (which was used to create the painting that made it to the cover of New Yorker magazine), the SketchBook Mobile painting and drawing application is now available on the iPhone App store.

With this, you can now have your digital sketchpad right on to your iPhone or iPod Touch. According to the information provided on the AutoDesk's page, the SketchBook iPhone app will let the user perform all actions that are possible in the SketchBook Pro software and lets the user create "artwork on the go". Here are some features available on the application:

  • Full screen environment
  • Synthetic pressure sensitive brush
  • 25 brush presets
  • Layer based work flow (up to 6 layers on the iPhone 3GS)

The best thing about the application is the uncluttered user interface that has been tailor made keeping the constraints of a mobile phone application in mind. The iPhone app thus provides the user with a unique and clean way to access his tools in a radial menu design.

The app is now available on the iTunes store in two versions - the free Express version for people who want to give it a try before purchase, and the other $2.99 full version for the pros. If you buy this app, do let us know in the comments if you like it and how you would rate it against the other illustration apps.
