iPhone OS 3.1.2 Release notes

Let’s hope it also resolves some of the problems that were reported by iPhone users after upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1 such as random shutdown, poor battery life, bricked iPhone and slow performance.

If you have jailbroken and/or unlocked your iPhone then it would be a good idea to wait for iPhone Dev Team to provide an update on how the latest iPhone OS impacts a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone as you could end up bricking your iPhone.

But if you don’t care about jailbreaking or unlocking your iPhone then download and install iPhone OS 3.1.2 via iTunes and please let us know how it goes.

Update 1:

iPhone OS 3.1.2 is accompanied by an update to AT&T's carrier settings file for iPhone users in the US. It updates the carrier settings to version 5.6.

Update 2:

Dev Team issues warning to iPhone jailbreakers or unlockers to avoid upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1.2

Update 3:

The baseband bundled with iPhone OS 3.1.2 is the same as the one bundled in iPhone OS 3.1 i.e. 05.11.07, so there is no change there. iPhone hacking community haven't been able to unlock this version of the baseband yet.

Update 4:

Geohot is calling his new jailbreaking tool, blackra1n. He has tweeted that iPhone OS 3.1.2 is still vulnerable and he was able to jailbreak his iPhone 3GS running iPhone OS 3.1.2.

"phew, dodged a bullet with 3.1.2...still vulnerable and blackra1n worked perfectly on my 3gs"
It looks like blackra1n won't preserve the baseband, so if you use it, you won't be able to unlock your iPhone.
